Celebrate 1100th anniversary of the crowning of King Athelstan
Kingston 2025 is a six-month festival marking the 1100th anniversary of the crowning of King Athelstan, the first king of a united England. The festival programme of arts and culture events and activities runs across the borough from May until October, celebrating the past, present and future of all the communities who have made Kingston their home.
The opening event takes place on Saturday, 3rd May in and around Kingston’s Market Place. Kicking off at 12noon, the event promises to show the best local talent across K-pop, jazz, drumming, dancing and singing. At 1.45pm, Ukrainian brass band, Freedom Pulse, will perform. At 2.30pm, a thousand years of Kingston’s history will be portrayed through a unique street performance, Athelstan Among Us.
