On 15th July, Kingston Council hosted an event to celebrate Tolworth Court Farm’s vision of becoming one of London’s leading nature reserves.

The event featured a series of talks about the Wild Tolworth Rewilding Project. This project aims to transform the nature reserve by maximising biodiversity to make it a valuable nature reserve for wildlife and local communities.to enhance biodiversity and transform the reserve into a valuable asset for both wildlife and the local community. Speakers included Elliot Newton, Kingston’s Biodiversity Officer; Robin Hutchinson from Community Brain; Ben Stockwell from Citizen Zoo; Councillor Ian Manders, Portfolio Holder for Climate Action, Biodiversity, and Planning Policy; and Councillor Liz Green, Mayor of Kingston.

Local experts led tours to discuss the diverse wildlife in the area and the proposed rewilding initiatives. Attendees enjoyed various pop-up stalls from organisations like the Surbiton Bird Watchers and a Ukrainian embroidery stall, reflecting the borough’s rich and diverse community.

Cattle returned to the site for the first time in 50 years also joined the celebrations!

Rob Robb, a member of our Executive Committee, has written to the Council commending them on their initiative but asking for them to provide car parking facilities.
