Chessington Junior Chess Club

Chessington Junior Chess Club

Did you know that learning chess as a child or young person sharpens critical thinking, memory, and concentration, and can also boost academic performance – especially in maths and reading? It also offers a rich blend of cognitive, emotional, and social benefits that extend far beyond the board.

We were, therefore, pleased to hear about the Chessington Junior Chess Club which meets every Monday (term time) between 7 and 8pm at the King’s Centre in Coppard Gardens, Chessington. They are a locally run, volunteer-led club dedicated to providing a safe, fun, and educational environment for children in the area to learn and play chess.

The club offers great value for the expert-led instruction provided. Initial trial sessions are £5.00 then weekly at £7. The club works hard to keep their costs low so you can invest in your child’s future without breaking the bank.

Chessington Junior Chess Club is open to all children and young people in the Chessington area, regardless of experience level.

Benefits of playing chess

Playing chess helps children and young people to learn to plan and adapt their strategies. They develop patience, discipline, and resilience. It also encourages creativity and responsibility, teaching young players to own their decisions and learn from mistakes. Best of all, it’s inclusive, low-cost, and endlessly engaging – an ideal way to nurture lifelong learning and personal growth.
