“I recently stumbled across your website whilst “googling” the house where I spent the first nine years of my life.
“Some of my most vivid and fondest memories are of those years. Born in Epsom Hospital in 1950, I lived in 42 Fircroft Road, a two up two down, with my parents and my elder brother and sister. I went to Gosbury Hill Primary School which was next to Moor Lane Primary where my sister attended and my brother was at Tiffins. To get to school I used to walk from Fircroft along Coxs Lane under the railway where there was a footpath alongside the railway leading up to the school. I used to walk home for lunch and back again. Cars were a rarity, perhaps only four or five people in Fircroft Road had a car. My father had an allotment at the back of King Edwards rec and he used to take me there on the cross bar of his bike. Treat of the day was to stop at the North Star on the way back for a lemonade and packet of crisps. Your photographs have bought back many memories. I remember them building the Hook Underpass and the shops, particularly Sainsburys. Shopping seemed to be a daily task for my mother.
